Prose Non-Fiction - My Experience
School based experienced (SBE) is a must for a teacher
trainee. In order for them to become a full-fledged teacher, they must undergo a
programme called school based experienced where they will have to observe how does
a teacher teach in a classroom. Farid, Shahrul and I went to SK Padang
Mokan for our SBE. In this article, I will discuss how our mentor teaches
in her classroom by using the library as a method of teaching and how we manage
ourselves in relieving a class during our SBE.
During our SBE, we have looked for a mentor for us to
observe. Our mentor, Madam Haslina, is an English teacher who teaches year 4
pupils. During our observation, she brought her pupils to the library for her
English lesson. She told her pupils to sit in a semi-circle at the back of the
library as it is spacious enough for her to teach. She then begins her lesson
by introducing the pupils with a big storybook. She began to narrate the story
which is about the Little Red Riding Hood. She showed the book towards the
pupils as she narrates the story so the pupils will be able to see the pictures
clearly. At the end of her storytelling, she began to ask questions to the
pupils such as if the Woodcutter did not come to rescue Little Red Riding Hood
and her grandmother what would happen to them and so on.
In my opinion, Madam Haslina had done a good job of
teaching her pupils about storytelling. She was able to expose her pupils on
how does storytelling goes and in the future will be able to ask her pupils to
narrate the story instead of herself.
Apart from observing our mentor, we were tasked to relief a
class which is 3 Firus. We took the pupils from 3 Firus to the library as we
were trying to copy what Madam Haslina did during our observation. Instead of
teaching English, we were helping them with their Mathematics exercise as the
period is Mathematics. We took the pupils to the back of the library and ask
them to sit in a semi-circle too. I took the initiative to help them with their
exercise by borrowing one of the pupil’s exercise book to look at the exercise
and then give back the book to the pupil. As the exercise is not that hard for
me to understand, I was able to help the pupils with their exercise by teaching
them how to do the calculation. I felt happy to teach them Mathematics instead
of English because as I future teacher I should be able to teach pupils with
any kind of subjects in school.
As for my friends Farid and Shahrul, both of them help me
to supervise the pupils by following what I had instructed them to do. Both of
them agree to follow with what I had discussed with them as my focus is to help
the pupils with their Mathematics exercise.
In conclusion, SBE is a fun and exciting programme for the
teacher trainee where they have the opportunity to see how the teachers at the
school teach. The teacher trainee can also take the initiative to relief a
class so they can gain experience and have a taste of how does a teacher feel when
teaching a in real classroom experience.
Prose Fiction - The School
I wake
up. It’s already 6AM and the date is the 24th of March. Today is the day
I have to go to a school with my friends for our School-Based Experience. First
thing first, shower! Brushing, rubbing, sneezing and cold. Without a moment to
lose I quickly iron my shirt and my pant after I get out from the shower. “6:45AM,
guess I still have time for breakfast”. My breakfast usually just made out of
bread and jam which I am happy to eat it every morning. After I say goodbye to
my mum, dad and grandma I quickly drive to my friend’s house as it is just a
stone throw away from the school we are going.
Traffic. Lucky for me I manage to
get out of my house just in time for the traffic to turn green. But somehow,
I feel like the traffic is a bit different than the usual. I keep on seeing
many kinds of cars with design and brand that I have not seen yet before. Maybe
it is just my imagination I said to myself. Using the help of the Google Map I
manage to find the road to my friend’s house. It was a road with a lot of thick
trees like a forest. “Is this road really lead to Farid’s house?” I wondered. As
I am already halfway through the forest, my car suddenly stuck in the mud. I keep
on pressing the gas until suddenly a giant boar running straight to my car. As the
boar almost reach my car, I close my eyes and then suddenly I heard Farid’s voice.
I open my eyes and see myself inside Farid’s porch. I tried to ask Farid a few
questions about how did I get to his house but he rushed me to get into his car
and go to school as we are running late. Without questioning him, I entered
his car.
The forest which leads to his house,
gone! It turned into bushes left and right. I was shocked to see that the forest
that I had entered turned into bushes. As Farid about to enter the school
compound, we were stopped by the guard at the gate. The guard, who is supposed to look like a typical human being with a human face turns out to be an alien!
Farid, who is talking to the guard is talking to the alien guard as he is a
human. I quickly tell Farid that this is an alien but Farid
said the guard is just a normal human being. As I shift my head and look inside
the school, my face rapidly turned into a terrifying face. “This school is for
monsters!” I said. One by one little monster with different shapes and sizes went
into the school which I am supposed to do my SBE with my friends.
As the guard allowed us to park inside
the school compound, Farid quickly goes inside to park. As Farid went out of the
car, I am still inside trembling in fears. Farid said there is nothing to be
worried about as he will protect me from this “monsters”. As I went out, a lot
of these little monsters came to me and throw out their “hand” towards me. I
tried to get inside the car but Farid already locked the door. I sat down and
close my eyes and pray so these little monsters will go away.
Suddenly, I heard a knock. I keep hearing
it until suddenly I hear the sound of a door open. As I open my eyes, my dad is
at the door to my room telling me that today is the day that I will begin my
School-Based Experience. I look at my phone. It’s already 6AM and the date is
24th of March. Now I realize that my dream will become a reality.
